The exact question was: Should I do SEO for my existing lead gen client? A lead gen client of mine who’s been paying me $1400/month since October 2021 asked me to build a website for him in November 2022. So I charged him $4500 for the website and built the website for him. Now he’s asking me to do SEO for the website I built for him so that both my lead gen gbp and website and his gbp and website could rank at the top and be generating leads. I have no doubts that I’ll be able to rank his website and gbp to the top because I’ve already done it once with my own lead gen gbp and website. But my concern is that he could decide to stop paying for my lead gen service once I rank his website and gbp listing and they’re generating leads. Even though my client says that he’s not going to leave me after his own website and gbp listing is ranked because I’ve been there with him since the very beginning, there’s ultimately nothing, not even a contract, that could keep him from breaking his promise. For context, this client was hardly getting any leads and was bringing in $5000-$10000/month when I first came to him. A year and a few months of us working together later, now he’s bringing in $300000/month plus he recently pulled a job grossing $497000 and he’ll clear 30%-40% from it. He’s 49 years old so he should still have about 10-15 years of working career in his industry. Plus, his son has joined him in this business. If I were to do SEO for his website and gbp, I won’t go below $1999/month due to the potential risk of him leaving me after he’s ranked. Even then, I still stand to lose big considering the money I could make from doing lead gen for him for the next 10-15 years. With that said, should I take his words and rank up his website and gbp listing for him? Or should I practice risk aversion and refrain from doing SEO for him and solely do lead gen with him? I’m pretty sure he won’t be able to rank up his website and gbp listing without my help because he’s not willing to pay what it takes to rank up. He thinks any SEO offer over $500/month is expensive.
