Would De Indexing An Old Website Help In Ranking For The Same Content For A Different Domain?

In Semantic Mastery's weekly Hump Day Hangouts episode 355 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wX9xyAa6FBo), one viewer asked if de-indexing an old website help in ranking for the same content for a different domain. The exact question was: Unfortunately I am in the middle of legal battles with my biz partner and will be dissolving my biz. I'm going to be forced to shut the primary domain down. However, I can legally use all content from the site and I scooped a new and better exact match domain name to re-launch with a new company. I want to clear the way for me to rank again using all the same content on the new domain. Would de-indexing the original website help? I will be using the SAME exact content again on the new domain and the current site will be shut down. I understand the new domain will lack authority, links, etc and I will have to build it all up again. If you were in my shoes, are there any other tricks outside of de-indexing the original site that might help clear the way for me to rank with the new site?
